I Am Of This Place ~ (6-7 Feb 2019)
February 6, 2019 @ 9:00 am - February 7, 2019 @ 3:00 pm
“I am of this Place”
Sue Davidoff and Tanja Meyburgh
Our identity is powerfully shaped, in ways that we perhaps do not fully recognise, by the land in which we were born – and which we inhabit – and the land of our ancestors. Separation from this land creates a sense of dislocation and disconnection – from ourselves, from one another, from life itself. The land that we inhabit now carries its own ancestral history. Part of the journey towards finding our rightful place in our lives has to do with the acknowledgment of these interweaving sets of realities of the past and the present, in our own ancestral stream and that of the place we now inhabit, and how they come together in each one of us.
“I am of this Place” brings together the phenomenological perception of what is needed right here, right now for our healing and sense of belonging in relation to land, place, and the deeper oneness with nature that we knew as indigenous people before being separated from the land, and from our places of origin. It speaks to the grief of loss of oneness with the natural world and what it means to belong to a place.
Using dialogue, movements of the soul and community constellation we strip away the layers of the non-essential, connect to the primal and explore what is present in the group including relating to the places where we live, ancestral lands, immigration, forced removals, land expropriation and the trans-generational consequences of ill-gotten land gains.
